| 内容記述 | 本稿はイギリスの首都ロンドンの南部に位置するブリクストン(Brixton)とペッカム(Peckham)を研究対象地域としている。ブリクストンとペッカムは共に民族的・社会的混淆という点において象徴的な地域であり、ロンドンの中ではジェントリフィケーション(gentrification)が進行している地域としても知られている。本稿ではそれぞれの地域に暮らしている白人中間階級にインタビュー調査を実施し、それをもとに2つの地域を比較しながら、白人中間階級らが同じ近隣地域の「他なる人々」や「他なる場所」をどのように認識し、その認識が彼ら／彼女ら自身の価値観や言動といかに関連し合っているのか、そしてそうした価値観や言動がいかなるかたちで空間に投影されているのかという点を明らかにしている。結論としては、社会階層やエスニシティの異なる「他者」の存在がロンドンのインナーシティ(innercity)に暮らす中間階級のアイデンティティ形成において中心的に作用していることが明らかとなった。またブリクストンについては「ソーシャルテクトニクスsocial tectonics」という概念で状況の把握を行うことができるが、ペッカムの事例からは「他者」に対する中間階級の認識や言動が時間の経過とともに変化していく可能性があるということが明らかとなった。 | |||||||||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | In this paper, the authors examine two neighbourhoods, Brixton and Peckham, located in South London. Brixton and Peckham are both symbolic neighbourhoods in terms of ethnically and socially mixed situation, and also are known as gentrifying neighbourhoods. Referring to accounts of white middle classes respondents who live in each neighbourhoods, the authors focus on some questions comparing Brixton and Peckham; how white middle-class people consider 'other people' or 'other place', how their understanding about that is related to their sense of values and attitudes, and how these are reflected on special environments. As a result, the authors concluded that the presence of social and ethnical 'others' are centered to the formulation of middle-classes' identity. And, it is concluded that in Brixton we can examine 'social tectonic' situation, on the other hand, in Peckham, middle-classes' understandings and attitudes toward 'others' can change as time passes. | |||||||||||||||||||
